New Anabelia doily

Anabelia doily

This doily is based on a pattern by Anabelia (q.G.). This is the test version. I have made another, not yet pinned out and starched, which will be used for a clock. Note that it has 12 points.

Virus shawl - nope

Looks like too much hard work. I do these rectangular ones for church, semi-lacy like Lion Brand's Delicate Web pattern, and James G. Davis's V-stitch mile-a-minute pattern-- strips that go fast and then you sew them together.  Now that I know the mattress stitch I won't have 50,000 tails to sew in. Also the binary patterns such as 10101 and 01010 from http://engineeredcrochet.blogspot.com/. I made a nice one with the very old public domain diamond pattern, likewise fast.

I do want to do some lacy shawls, along the line of

Begin at red circle, closed with a sl st (left out). After you make the circle, do the 6-ch turning chain at left, and continue from there. Notice where the tab connects to a V-st, there is no turning chain on that side.
Little circles are ch stitches. Black ovals are sl st's. Crosses are dc's. Ovals are long picots. x's are sc's. That's all it takes to make this appealing edging.

More things to learn

- Hairpin lace
- Broomstick (peacock tail) lace
- Front post/back post -- Check! I can do this now.
- Increasing filet blocks on the edge. Somebody told me some ways to do this, but they ran off my brain like rain off an overturned bucket.
- Stretchy ribbed crochet. I have known this before. Might be useful for a variant of The Coif Hat project.
- Increasing to make a circle or a hat top (so-called beanie). People have given me many tips about this. What a great community Ravelry is!
- Tunisian crochet
- Venetian crochet
- Not, however, Romanian. Just not interested, though it is beautiful.
- Crocheted cords
Wow, that's a lot, and by no means all.
- THE MAGIC RING, which I have done three of successfully, but it's hard to sl st in the first sc. Really hard. Something is wrong somewhere. Check! I can do this now.
- Some more of the fancy bargello stitches besides the one I used in the wall hanging project.
- Patience. I would like to learn patience.
- To work with smaller and smaller thread. I have been practicing with size 30 Cebelia and getting fairly good at it, starting with just chains, then dc's, and so on. I want to get down to size 80 (tatting thread) to make really fine lace edgings.
